College & University tie, 4-4, in 2018 NEIBA All-Star Game

The Div. II & III College team and the Div. 1 University team tied 4-4 in the 44th Annual Joe Walsh All-Star Game at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, R.I. on May 31, 2018.

Nick Rand from UMass-Lowell was named the Most Outstanding Player for the University team. Tom Walraven from the University of New Haven was the Most Outstanding Player for the College team.

Prior to the game, NEIBA honored its three Hall of Fame inductees in Bill Thurston (Amherst), Bill Holowaty (Eastern Conn. St.) and Pete Varney (Brandeis).

Also, the association honored its annual award winners:

Andy Baylock Distinguished Service Award: Barry Rosen – Merrimack/St. Anselm’s
Butterfield Award: Ken Howe – Keene State
Kevin Burr Assistant Coach Award: John O’Brien – Suffolk

2018 NEIBA HALL OF FAME CLASS/All-Star Game
McCoy Stadium, Pawtucket – May 31, 2018

NEIBA has announced the names of the 2018 Hall of Fame Class. The 2018 class will be honored with their awards prior to the 44th Annual NEIBA Joe Walsh All-Star Game on Thursday, May 31, in Pawtucket, R.I., between the University All-Stars (Div. I) and College All-Stars (Div. II/III). First pitch at McCoy Stadium is set for 12 p.m.

This year’s NEIBA Hall of Fame Class includes some of the New England’s top coaches, all of which left a lasting legacy of success. This year’s honorees are:

Bill Thurston – Head Coach Amherst College – 1966-2009
Bill Holowaty – Head Coach Eastern Connecticut State University – 1967-2012
Pete Varney – Head Coach Brandeis University – 1982 – 2015

2018 NEIBA Division III All-New England Teams (5/22/18)

The New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA), in conjunction with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), released its Division III All-New England teams.

Wheaton College sophomore catcher Nick Raposo was named the Player-of-the-Year after hitting .434 with 25 extra-base hits. UMass Dartmouth junior Matt Cronin earned the Pitcher-of-the-Year after going 6-1 with a 0.99 ERA. UMass Boston skipper Brendan Eygabroat was tabbed as the NEIBA Division III Coach of the Year.

2018 NEIBA All-Star Game – Pawtucket – May 31, 2018

The 2018 NEIBA All-Star Game will return to McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island for the second consecutive year. This year’s All-Star game will be played on Thursday, May 31. First pitch is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m.

It will be the third time in the history of the NEIBA that the All-Star game will be played at the home of the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Last season, the College Division and the University Division played to a 3-3 tie, after having the event cancelled in 2016 and 2015 due to weather. Prior to the start of the All-Star game, the NEIBA will honor the 2018 award winners, as well as the 2018 Hall of Fame class.

Growing the Game Coaches Clinic – Feb. 10, 2018 – Rhode Island

Roger Williams University Baseball is hosting a coaches clinic on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 from 2-5 p.m. in Global Heritage Hall on their campus in Bristol, R.I. The clinic is part of NEIBA’s Growing the Game initiative to promote and teach the game.
